In walking door-to-door in preparation for serving you as your county commissioner, many of our neighbors have voiced these concerns. Where do stand on the Issues?

High Quality Services
The on-going financial stability of Kent County is of paramount importance to me. As your county commissioner I have worked hard to help the county balance its budget and maintain its high (AAA) bond rating. During tough economic times we have been able to operate within our means to provide the high quality services citizens have come to expect from the county without raising our operating mileage rate.
As chair of the county's Legislative and Human Resources Committee for three years I worked hard to help diversify the county's appointed boards, committees, and commissions. It is important to me to get representation from every segment of our community.

Currently, Kent County is delivering over $20 million dollars of children's health and human services to the core city of Grand Rapids. Some of these services are provided to our children in conjunction with the Grand Rapids Public Schools. I fought hard to retain the funding of nearly $1.8 million dollars needed for this county initiative when other commissioners wanted it substantially reduced. I will continue to fight for children and families.
Critical to Businesses
Kent County along with several cities including Grand Rapids and townships are looking at ways to improve its 911 dispatch systems. When emergency services are needed it is important to have a quick response. I will work towards this goal.
The Senior Citizens of our county should be able to live independently and in their own homes. Some important services funded by Kent County include home delivered meals, respite care, prescription drugs assistance, home repairs, transportation, counseling, legal, and medical assistance. I will advocate for senior citizens.

Neighbors,
Please look over my past and present involvement in our community. If elected, I will work hard to bring this passion for community service, involvement, and leadership to the board of commissioners. I have received many different Kent County board appointments allowing me to have a broad background and understanding of how the county works to deliver its services to all of our citizens.
I was humbled to be elected three times to the Board of Commissioners, and serve as Vice Chair of the Commission in 2006. That skill along with all my past experience put me in the best position to get things done for the people of the 18th district in Grand Rapids.
I have always been more of a worker than a talker. I have worked as a member of numerous community, school, and neighborhood groups to help make our area a better place to live for all of our families and children. As a commissioner, I chaired the committee which formed the West Michigan Sports Commission, I championed diversifying our appointed boards, and I worked to help senior citizens stay independent and in their homes.
Please read through my campaign website to see what I have done, and will do as your elected representative to the Kent County Board of Commissioners.
Thank you for allowing me to serve,
